We’ve been working on a new sound pack, and it’s almost ready. Look for a new release in the coming weeks. In the meantime, here’s a little sneak peek.

Save on Ambiences With the Quad Seasons Pack!
We’ve collected four of our ambience sound libraries to represent the variety of the four seasons, and save you $25 in the process. Our new Quad Seasons Pack is a great way to get a diverse collection of ambiences in one go!
Libraries included are:
- Prairies and Small Forests 2 – This is a beautiful collection of long stretches of prairie grass life just in front of a small forest.
- Young Forest in Spring – A great basic canvas for outdoor scenes. There is some branch movement, but very little to no leaf sound and sparse bird life.
- Winter Forests – Many of these recordings have a great frozen stillness to them, but listen long enough and you’ll hear the subtle shifts of the winter world.
- Grassland Prairies – Recorded on a hot day in August, these places are teeming with life. Grass blowing, crickets, bird songs, bird calls.
If you’ve already purchased at least 2 of these libraries, you can contact us and we’ll work out a pro-rated deal for you.
New Houseboat Library!
We went to Stillwater, MN to record a houseboat on the waters of the St. Croix river, and came out with a great collection of recordings of maneuvering, accelerating, decelerating, and floating at rest. With shotgun mics affixed to the bow and sides, a quad array inside the cabin or up on the roof, and handheld recorders placed in strategic locations, there’s no shortage of perspectives to choose from. The houseboat is bigger and heavier than a speedboat, so this could be useful for any larger, slower watercraft. As we usually do, we also included a handful of odds and ends like the horn blasting, doors and cabinets opening and closing, and we also grabbed some quick recordings of a pontoon boat that we happened to have access to. All in all, a pretty productive day.
Similar to the Sailboat library, we’re releasing this library in a choice of Poly Wav or Multiwav formats, so that people can choose whether they want one big (up to 10 channel!) WAV file, or separate individual mono, stereo, and quad files.

New New New!
2 New Libraries and a Shiny New Website!
After a brief hiatus, we’re happy to return with two brand new libraries, and a ground-up redesign of our website.
We’ve been teasing our new Sailboat library for some time. Recorded out on the waters of Lake Superior, we miced up a 1977 Ericson sloop in all sorts of ways to capture the entire experience from many perspectives on two different days. There’s a quad array on deck, stereo recorders down below in the cabin and on-deck, fixed and roaming shotgun mics go over the side and focus on sails and rigging…most recordings have a total of ten channels! We’ve done this so that the savvy sound editor can pick and choose perspectives for any given event, or even balance several depending on their needs. Wind in the sails, rigging sounds, winches, cranking, water, anchors, as well as large set of just floating. We think it’s pretty cool!
This pack is a bit different in that we’re experimenting with releasing massive 10-Channel Poly WAV files of all the perspectives in one file as well as a set of Multiple Wavs representing the various POV’s. You get to chose which format you prefer!

While we were up there, we also took a long drive up the coast and into Superior National Forest, to capture some natural ambience in the same spirit as our previous nature recordings. This type of content always seems to be useful, and it was the perfect opportunity to get recordings unspoiled by human machines. Lots of detailed wind in the leaves, some sections with birds but never too busy, and multiple perspectives of a peaceful stream winding its way through the woods. We’ve even listed the bird species heard in the recordings. Perfect for a backdrop to any scene needing breeze in the trees and light birds that can be added to, or as a featured background for a forest scene.

Then there’s our brand spankin’ new website! The old USL site was starting to get pretty long in the tooth, and it seemed like time for a refresh. We tore it all down and started from scratch, designing something that we think is easier, faster and more inviting to navigate. We hope you think so too!
Lastly, we will be far more communicative in this blog here sharing our excursions and experiences with you to give you deeper insight into Undertone Sound Library’s work and passion.
